Ross Stefan [1934-1999], a western painter whose work comprised a rich pictorial document on the landscapes, early settlers, and Native Americans of the Southwest. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, his family moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1953, where he began to paint while in his teens. At 21 he was painting full time with a studio and gallery in Tubac, Arizona. Works by Stefan are in the collections of the Phoenix Art Museum, the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center in Pueblo, Colorado, and in many distinguished private collections.
