Law and Order in San Francisco: A Beginning. Item #2636
41 p.; gold-embossed yellow stiff Yapp wrapper; chapter heads & other illustrations reproducing Pedro Lemos, halftones reproducing Louis J. Stellman; 3 foldout facsimiles. San Francisco: Chamber of Commerce, 1916. Handsomely produced statement of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce in response to the contemporary activities of organized labor. In that period, labor activities had every appearance of revolution to Chamber members. An explosion at the Preparedness Day Parade, July 22, 1916, that killed 10 and wounded 50 led to the publication of this work which supported a Chamber sponsored ordinance to prohibit picketing. The ordinance passed. Yapp wrappers with short tears & creases beyond the text block, facsimiles darkened & burning adjacent pages, otherwise very good. |
