Mex, 1916 & return to sender stamp; 3 decorative bottle labels printed dark over light blue, orange borders; vignette of hot springs in center. Faywood & Silver Springs, NM, 1917 & nd 2nd letter [c. 1920]. Anonymous, somewhat cryptic correspondence to Mr. R. B. Powell of Silver City, New Mexico: "Your recent letter at hand and I am half glad that time has ceased to be as much an escence [sic] as of a few weeks ago, and would still be more pleased if with a reasonable lapse of time I could forget the whole thing and the way I felt while being harassed until thinking the torments might be less, I was caused to give in, tho entirely against my will or my wish. You see I felt as tho I were singled out, that my privilege to have or to hold were being questioned. I wish I could feel different even now, and hope that the results might be half as great at least as the vexation, for at that it would make a lot of money for all connected. Trusting that you will excuse my frankness . . ." Former owner has loosely affixed a strip of paper with additional typed information for Faywood, "also known as Dwyer, Maury, Spalding", etc., to face of letter below signature line; envelope fairly chewed, soiled & torn; 1 of 3 labels somewhat faded with light stain. |
