806 pp., plus numerous ads; thick 8vo; re-backed, gilt-stamped black half-leather over boards; original covers bound in; black & white photos throughout; illustrations. Los Angeles: Out West Magazine Co., 1903. Unsurpassable as a source of information on Los Angeles and the Southwest, not to mention the dozens of unique period photographs in each of the six issues. Lummis was an energetic booster of Los Angeles and the region as well as a successful solicitor of articles by "names" for the publication. Including: Charles Keeler's, "My Friend Leota, A Samoan Sketch"; "Death Valley Party of 1849," by The Rev. John Wells Brier (a survivor); Ina Coolbrith in a sonnet on William Keith, and many more. Subjects include, Native American arts & culture, Pacific voyages, irrigation of arid lands, California Missions, etc., etc. Corners and edges scuffed, worn through in parts; chips out of spine leather; from the Automobile Club of Southern California with their bookplate on front pastedown, call label on spine.
