E. E. Heikka. The Outlaw Item #5511
Bronze; 13.5"x15"x6"; available in original coloring, traditional bronze, or choice of patinas. Edition of 36 (Original sculpture c. 1939). Cast from a newly-discovered Heikka sculpture. A badman makes his escape, while firing at his unseen pursuers with twin pistols. Heikka often received requests for works similar to earlier commissions, and it appears that "Outlaw" was modeled in the same vein as the pieces "Road Agent", "Escape" and "Double Road Agents," all of which feature mounted bandits in similar backwards-firing poses. This sculpture, however, gives a better rendering of the outlaw's twisted pose, and the raised bandana adds menace to the figure. |
