[NEVADA]. Trustees vs. Buck: Original Nevada District Court copy of suit to rescind contract with J. Holman Buck by trustees of the Western Nevada Miner, and related cover note, 1907
Item #6248

3 items: 2pp., typed; 13" x 8.5"; brad bound in printed District Court cover. Document is undated & unsigned. Together with autograph cover note from J. E. Adams, with his signature on a half-sheet, printed letterhead of Adams & Miller General Merchandise, Mina, Nevada, 1907; note & cover addressed to George S. Green, Tonopah, Nevada. Adams writes: "Friend George, Enclosed find papers regarding news paper matter which I talked over with you on train, please read over. Make out complaint and all necessary papers and deliver same to me or B. F. Baker at Mina." Baker named in document as one of the trustees. J. Holman Buck started the Western Nevada Miner on July 7, 1906 as sole editor and proprietor according to Lingenefelter's "Newspapers of Nevada." According to the court document he must have been in receivership by September of that year. The trustees contend that he has failed to comply with the contract made with them, September 26th, 1906, by failing to render any account, statement or receipts, etc., etc. Lingenfelter has The Western Miner flourishing and later serving as "the parent to many of Buck's short-lived journals, which he established at neighboring boom camps." Apparently not without a trail of turmoil, as the above B. F. Baker is named in another Nevada Court case versus Buck - Mineral County [1921!]. Letterhead with a 2" closed tear from top edge across printed portion & a 3" closed tear at right margin affecting two written words. Document is fine.
