[COLORADO]. Three typed letters on Aspen letterheads of The Roaring Fork Electric Light & Power and the Consolidated Offices of David R. C. Brown, to Colonel Ed. F. Browne, 1911 & 1916 Item #6266
11" x 8.5"; full page t. l. s.; two printed Roaring Fork, 1911 and one engraved Cons. Offices, 1916. Colonel Browne was a civil engineer concerned primarily with railroad & mining matters. Jan. 30, 1911, C. E. Doolittle of Roaring Fork writes to Browne regarding past purchases of railroad stocks; the pumping out of the Free Silver Shaft by the Smuggler people; and the poor state of his electric business with so many being out of work, and watching their meters closely. Feb. 25 letter from Doolittle responds to a Brown query on the building of electric locomotives covering some technical points to be considered. In November, 1916, J. M. Downing writes to Browne thanking him for his congratulatory letter after Downing was elected to the Colorado lower house. "As suggested by you, I shall be rather lonesome and shall have to spend most of my time kicking against new legislation and advocating the repeal of old laws . . . Of course you are as much disgusted with the national and Colorado elections as I can possibly be, but I presume we will have to take our medicine and encourage that some time or other . . . sanity and a decent respect for American lives and property may be injected into the minds of those who conduct our public affairs." February Roaring Fork browned at edges, a bit creased. Overall near fine. |
