Joseph High Eagle

By David Humphreys Miller. Colored pencil and crayon on tinted art paper, drawn from life c. 1941, signed by D. H. Miller. 10"x8". Joseph High Eagle was an Oglala Sioux warrior of 18 in 1876, when he fought in the Battle of the Little Big Horn under his cousin Crazy Horse. He was one of David Miller's first sketch and interview subjects, in the summer of 1938. High Eagle was tragically hit by an automobile and killed in 1952, at the age of 94.
