Dewey Beard, also known as Iron Hail, was the last survivor of the Little Big Horn, and was also a survivor of the Wounded Knee Massacre. He made David Miller his adoptive son after the death of Miller's original adoptive Sioux father Black Elk. He took the name "Dewey" from Admiral George Dewey, whom he met on a trip East.
