Louis Looking Horse

By David Humphreys Miller. Colored pencil and crayon on tinted art paper, drawn from life c. 1940, unsigned. 11"x8". David Humphreys Miller first met Louis Looking Horse at his log house on the Standing Rock reservation in South Dakota. A Hunkpapa Sioux, Looking Horse was Sitting Bull's cousin, and fought with him in the Custer battle. Looking Horse participated in the ghost dance religion until Sitting Bull was killed by Indian police in 1890.
