Chief Henry Oscar One Bull (Small Profile)

By David Humphreys Miller. Colored pencil and crayon on tinted art paper, drawn from life c. 1935-1938, not signed by Miller. 11"x8". A smaller profile sketch of Chief Henry Oscar One Bull, the first Custer survivor to pose for young David Humphreys Miller. A nephew, adopted son, and bodyguard of Chief Sitting Bull, One Bull held a high position in the Sioux hierarchy, and provided Miller with much of the firsthand information that was eventually published in Custer's Fall. He led the counterattack against Reno's troopers at the Little Big Horn.
