Richard Sanderville grew up on the Montana Blackfoot Reservation and was a student of traditional sign language. Among the first group of Blackfoot enrolled at the Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania, he later served on the Blackfoot tribal council. Sanderville appears to have signed this portrait. |
