Bronze, 16" x 12.75" x4.75", edition of 36 (Original sculpture 1941). One of Heikka's later pieces, Heading for the High Country was created shortly before the artist's tragic death at the age of 31. Here we see Heikka at the height of his powers, accentuating his skills in realism with a keen sense of form and mood. A companion model, Down from the High Country, portrays the return from the journey started here. Both original models reside in the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.
