Bronze, 10.25" x 10.25" x 5", edition of 36 (Original sculpture 1929), hand painted. An affectionate sculpture of famed Western artist C. M. Russell on horseback. As a boy, Heikka may have observed Russell at work in his studio, but there is no evidence of any interaction between the two artists. Nonetheless, Heikka felt immense respect for Russell and was influenced by him in many aspects of his work. The model for this bronze was commissioned by Mrs. Hassard, a grade school teacher. |
