DR. SEUSS (Theodor Geisel). Handwritten note from Dr. Seuss to artist David Humphreys Miller, on Cat in the Hat stationery
Item #7425

8.5"x5.5", matted and framed. Ink note and doodles on printed stationery, unsigned. no date. From the estate of Western artist and author David Humphreys Miller, best known for his portraits of Indian combatants in the Battle of the Little Big Horn. His books Custer's Fall and Ghost Dance presented Indian views on the Little Big Horn and Wounded Knee, based on interviews he conducted with survivors of both events. This humorous letter from Seuss refers to an exhibit of Miller's Indian portraits, and reads, "Seuss is so depressed after seeing your show. He can't draw War-Bonnetts for sour apples!" In keeping with the Western theme of Miller's art, Seuss has added several haphazard feathers to the Cat's hat. Fine condition.
