Edited by Adolph van Hemert - Engert and Frederick J. Teggert. Cowan II, p. 145. Costanso's Narrative [c. 1770] is of "utmost importance" according to Cowan, "being the first book to relate exclusively to California. It gives the complete account of the Portola expedition by which the founding of the first settlement in Upper California was accomplished." Text contains a careful reprint. Light wear at corners. Near fine condition.
