Frank R. Fageol [b. 1892] and his brother Bill were teens in Iowa when they built an eight passenger, steam driven vehicle. In 1904 they came to California and were involved in several motor transportation companies in San Francisco & Oakland, from manufacture to sales and distribution. The Fageols also won the contract to operate transportation within the grounds of the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition. In 1923 they moved east, settling the next year in Kent, Ohio as the Fageol Motor Co., which was sold to American Car and Foundry Co., in 1925. During 1927 the Fageols re-established themselves as The Twin Coach Company at their original Kent location, the company named after their newest development, the first urban streetcar type motor coach. To date we have not found a specific reference or image of this 'TaxiCoach', which may be an early prototype of the smaller, lower priced buses seen in promotional material for the 'Twin Coach' of the early 1930's. Fold creases with splitting along most of the horizontal folds; minor chips and a loose piece toward the center. The splits comprising about 13 of the total 18" on the front and 8 of 18" in back; minor foxing at portion of edges. Remains a graphically stunning piece of motor history that will benefit immensely from special care in presentation. |
