Limited Edition; no. 127 of 300 copies. Edited with a Catalogue Raisonne by J. Russell Harper. Paul Kane [1810-71]. Born in Mallow, County Cork, Ireland, emigrating to what is now Toronto at a young age. He left Canada in 1836 to work and study art in the United States eventually studying in Europe in 1841. In 1845, with the help of patrons such as Sir George Simpson of the Hudson's Bay Company, and George W. Allan, who commissioned him to paint 100 Indian paintings, he began fulfilling his ambition to paint Indian life of the Canadian West. By the end of his life, he had become the pioneer of Canada's western artists. Fine condition in near fine slipcase with minimal wear at corners.
