Including: two 9.5" x 6" images; two 9.5" x 7.5; seven 4.5" x 6" and four 5.5" x 3". The four largest and for smallest images show the Solano carrying a passenger train with crew and passengers on deck. The Solano was a large railroad ferryboat which operated across the Carquinez Strait between Benicia and Port Costa in California. It was constructed and operated by the Central Pacific Railroad to ferry entire trains on the Central Pacific transcontinental line to and from the San Francisco Bay Area.Constructed in 1878 in Oakland, California, at the time it was the largest ferry boat ever built. With a length of 424 feet and width at 116, it was capable of carrying entire passenger trains or a 48-car freight train and locomotive. It was in service from 1879 to 1930. [Wikipedia].
