Dunderberg Mine. Oct 24, 1872

Dear Sir:

After having been at this Mine a few days, I find it necessary for me to make a report in regard to this Mine. I have to say, that it is much better than I expected. I find the tunnel 603 feet in, cutting a well defined Ledge, South Drift 106 feet, North Drift 190 feet, showing a fine vein all the way from one end to the other varying from 3 to 5 feet. We have now 5 feet of solid quartz in the face of the South Drift, such as you can see on the Assay. This Ledge lays in between two formations, Pophery on one side & Slate on the other, and no better can be found. If you gentlemen of San Francisco understood & could see what I can here, the Dunderberg Stock would be gobbled up very quickly. I have been in charge of Mines nearly all over the State of Nevada for the last ten years & I must say that I have never seen anything look more like a Mine than the Dunderberg. This Mine shows better for a long distance at the bottom of the Drifts than it does overhead, showing that there is a big Mine underneath & wants to be sunken. In the mean time this Mine can be made to pay, if the Mill was filled up for roasting, the ores are [word missing] & has got to be roasted to save the Gold & Silver. Fit up your Mill and I can make this Mine pay, and just as soon as you get the Mill fitted up you can make money. We have got over two hundred feet on this Ledge from this level to the surface & if it does not go more than half way up it is a big Mine. I know that it [...] [page 2]
